Eligibility To qualify for “Patient Advocate” registration, individuals must work or volunteer for a recognised cancer patient advocacy organization***, and not qualify for any other MASCC meeting registration category. Patient advocacy work in this context should be of and for the following purposes: - Provide input to programs, services, information, and/or support for people affected by cancer, and - Have a non-professional membership and do not offer continuing medical education (CME) or scientific programs for professional.
Application Process When completing your registration form, you will be asked to upload the follow application documents:
- A completed Application Form in English outlining your role(s), experience(s), and activities as a Patient Advocate (click here to download the fillable .pdf form, Part 1 of 2)
- A Letter of Support in English from an authorized person**** outlining: your role as a Patient Advocate, how your contribution makes a difference to supportive cancer care, and their relationship to you. (click here to download the fillable .pdf form, Part 2 of 2)
Review Process After submitting the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email of receipt. Your submission will be reviewed, and you may be asked to provide further information to ensure that you qualify as a Patient Advocate. You will receive a separate email to confirm if your application/registration has been approved from MASCC Events.
We accept a defined number of Patient Advocates registrations per Annual Meeting. Patient Advocates must register in advance by the deadline of Friday, May 20, 2022. MASCC reserves the right to close registrations prior to the deadline. There is no on-site approval for Patient Advocate registrations.
Please note that individuals registered under this category are not eligible to receive continuing education credit for their attendance at the Annual Meeting.
***MASCC recognizes the term ‘Consumer’ is used in various parts of the world. A ‘Consumer’ is anyone affected by cancer or providing care for someone who has cancer. Registration to the MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting is restricted for Consumers formally involved with patient advocacy organizations. ****An authorized person is a person able to support your status and contribution in capacity as a Patient Advocate for the purposes of this registration application. They may include a supervisor, committee Chair, senior member of the host organisation for which work is carried out, volunteer coordinator or member of the health care team.
