Member Spotlight: 2020 Annual Meeting Travel Scholarships Winner - Marina Čalamać
2020 Over several newsletter editions, MASCC will feature one of the winners of the 2020 Annual Meeting Travel Scholarships. MASCC’s annual travel scholarships are part of our organization’s commitment to increasing the attendance of oncology healthcare professionals from low-income countries at our annual meetings. This month we highlight MASCC member Marina Čalamać, MD, of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia in Belgrade. Marina’s Annual Meeting presentation is titled “Direct Collaboration Of A Multidisciplinary Tumor Board And Supportive Care Department For Patients With Advanced Cancer.”
Because the 2020 Annual Meeting was postponed this year (due to the pandemic), Čalamać will present at the 2021 Annual Meeting.
Čalamać received her medical degree in 2017 from the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Medicine, Serbia. As a student, she was drawn to medical oncology, inspired by a challenging profession that requires continuous education and professional development. During her medical studies, she joined a professional exchange to the Department of Medical Oncology at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, Riga, Latvia, where she was introduced to the integration of supportive and palliative cancer care with a disease-directed approach to care. From May 2018 to March 2019, she volunteered at the Department of Supportive and Palliative Care (SPC) at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS) in Belgrade. During her volunteer position, she was offered permanent employment at IORS.
In Čalamać’s everyday clinical work, she is committed to providing care that enables patients to live a longer, better quality life by integrating patient-oriented supportive and palliative care and disease-directed anticancer therapies. She has participated in national and international congresses in the field of medical oncology, supportive oncology, and palliative care, including the Third Regional Educational Meeting on Supportive Care in Cancer Patients for Eastern Europe and Balkan Region and several meetings organized by the Serbian Chapter of European Society for Medical Oncology.
Čalamać is determined to develop her knowledge and skills in medical oncology, supportive oncology, and palliative care to provide better patient-centered care.
