MASCC Offers a Free New Course for Members: A Guide to Breakthrough Cancer Pain (BTcP)

2021    Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) is a common phenomenon, with a reported overall prevalence of 60 percent in patients with cancer pain. It has a significant impact on quality of life, which relates not only to the pain itself, but also to the associated physical, psychological, and social problems. Equally, it has a significant impact on health systems (due to the increased use of healthcare resources). BTcP is often undiagnosed (or misdiagnosed), and, even if correctly diagnosed, is managed with suboptimal interventions (e.g., oral opioids).

These on-line educational sessions will highlight the “ART” of managing BTcP: A = adequate Assessment; R = adequate Re-assessment; T = appropriate Treatment (i.e. personalised treatment). This course, presented by Drs. Andrew Davies and Jo Thompson, is intended to educate health care practitioners on what BTcP is, how it is treated and address often-asked questions by patients and their families about BTcP.

This course is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Angelini Pharma. For more details and to access the course, go to the Education Portal under the Practice Resources menu item. you will need to log in with your membership login.
