MASCC/ISOO 2020: Annual Meeting Themes

2020    The MASCC/ISOO 2020 Annual Meeting focuses on three themes of critical importance in supportive cancer care: models of supportive care, cardio-oncology, and bioethics. There will also be sessions featuring digital health, palliative care, and cancer survivorship, as well as sessions reflecting the interests of MASCC/ISOO Study Groups.

Workshops include: “Managing Immuno-Oncology Toxicities: Models of Care”; “Mucositis Research Workshop: Advances in Research and Practice”;” Oral Supportive Care for Older Adults with Cancer: How Do They Eat? What Do They Eat?”; “Standards and New Technologies for the Monitoring and Management of Patient-Reported Toxicities during Active Treatment and Follow-up.” View workshop descriptions.

Plenary sessions include:

  • Models of Supportive Care: “Supportive care – 30 years of MASCC” with: Prof Dorothy Keefe (Australia); “Models of supportive care – what’s the evidence?” with: Dr Florian Scotté (France); and “Supportive care – a luxury in lower middle-income economies?” with: Dr Enrique Soto Perez de Celis (Mexico).
  • Cardio-oncology: “Cardio-oncology: beyond left ventricular dysfunction” with: Dr. Thomas Suter (Switzerland); “Looking at cardiotoxicity in the clinical and research setting” with: Dr. Michael Ewer (USA); “The oncologists’ view of cardio-oncology: how can we help each other most effectively as we try to help our patients?” with: Dr. Sandra Swain (USA).
  • Bioethics: “Ethical principles – one size fits all?” with: Dr. Richard Huxtable (UK); “New treatments, new ethical challenges” with: Dr. Ian Olver (Australia); “Ethical challenges of digital health revolution” with: Dr. Sarah Boers (Netherlands).

Meet the Expert session include: “Patient Engagement” with Anne McKenzie and Anna Boltong; “Writing for Supportive Care in Cancer” with speakers Fred Ashbury, Jørn Herrstedt and Ian Olver; and “How to become a MASCC Designated Center of Excellence in Supportive Care in Cancer” with speakers Carla Ida Ripamonti, Inessa Kononenko and Andrea Antonuzzo.
