Member Spotlight: 2020 Young Investigator Award - Arjun Gupta

2020    Over several newsletter editions, MASCC will feature one of the winners of the 2020 Young Investigators Award (YIA).  Every year, MASCC presents the YIA to recognize outstanding new-to-the-field investigators’ research accomplishments. The award is open to all junior investigators who have submitted an abstract to an upcoming MASCC annual meeting. YIAs are awarded to the first authors of the five abstracts with the highest scores. These abstracts are chosen from the top 10 percent of all abstracts submitted to the annual meeting.  For more information on how to apply for the YIA and recent award recipients, click here

This month we highlight MASCC member Arjun Gupta, MD, of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.  Gupta’s presentation for the annual meeting is titled “Rates Of Appropriate Laxative Prophylaxis For Opioid-Induced Constipation In Veterans With Lung Cancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study.”

Because the 2020 Annual Meeting was postponed this year (due to the pandemic), Gupta will present at the 2021 Annual Meeting.

Gupta is an Oncology Fellow at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  He attended medical school at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.  He completed residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.  Gupta’s clinical and research interests include gastrointestinal oncology, supportive care including symptom intervention trials, and improving care delivery.

During medical school and residencies, Gupta received many awards and accolades, including the University Topper and Gold Medalist Scholarship and a gold medal presented by the Prime Minister of India. He also most recently received the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) 2020 Conquer Cancer Young Investigators Award.
