Special Announcement: MASCC/ISOO 2021 Annual Meeting Moves to a Virtual Experience

2021    The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to postpone the MASCC/ISOO 2020 Annual Meeting, and it has forced us to convert the 2021 Annual Meeting into a totally virtual event. The dates of the Annual meeting are unchanged (June 24-26, 2021), and each day will have a “live” program timed to specific time zones (i.e., Day 1 – British Summer Time; Day 2 – Eastern Daylight Time; Day 3 – Australian Central Standard Time). In addition, there will also be many more pre-recorded sessions (e.g., “parallel sessions”, “meet the expert sessions”), and all of the live / pre-recorded sessions will be accessible during and after the Annual Meeting. The e-poster sessions will now be e-video sessions (see below). Obviously, the social events will now be virtual, but we hope just as entertaining as in previous years!

As you can imagine, the postponement of the 2020 Annual Meeting, the cancellation of the 2021 face-to-face meeting, and the need to appoint a new company to develop the platform for the virtual meeting have been incredibly challenging for the Executive Committee / MASCC staff. We still have much to do, and we ask that you remain patient (and continue to support the Annual Meeting). Anyone due a refund will receive their money (although the process is out of our hands), and all accepted abstracts from the 2020 Annual Meeting will be rolled over to the 2021 Annual Meeting (if wanted). Further details about the annual meeting are described below.

Abstract Submission opens TODAY! (JANUARY 25th)

Registration opens JANUARY 29th

Meeting Website:  www.mascc.org/annual-meeting

For those who submitted an abstract in 2020 that was accepted, we will provide an opportunity for you to resubmit your abstract and personal details so that we have the most up-to-date information. These abstracts will automatically be accepted for 2021. The presenting researcher for these abstracts will receive an email to explain the process. For specific questions regarding abstracts, please contact Emma at [email protected].

Abstract Topics:  the topics will be the same as in other years, reflecting the MASCC Study Groups / subgroups. In addition, topics will include those featured in this year’s plenary sessions (i.e., cardio-oncology, models of supportive care, bioethics), and COVID-19 and its impact on oncology / supportive care.

Oral Proffered Papers:  Several of the highest ranked abstracts will be chosen to be presented during the main program. The presenting author will need to be registered for the Annual Meeting (or their abstract will be withdrawn). Abstracts will be published in an e-publication of the Supportive Care in Cancer journal.

E-posters (now called E-videos):  Authors of other accepted abstracts will be given the opportunity to upload a short video to showcase their research (with accompanying information). The presenting author will need to be registered for the Annual Meeting (or their abstract will be withdrawn). Abstracts will be published in Supportive Care in Cancer.

Resources:  Registered delegates will have all live, on-demand sessions, and all E-posters/E-videos available to them during the meeting and for 90 days after the meeting.

Networking:  Given time constraints of running multiple Study Group meetings at the same time and with many attendees interested in attending various Study Group meetings, these meetings will take place before or after the Annual Meeting. There will also be an opportunity to interact with other delegates using a networking software called Grip during the meeting that allows everyone to connect with each other via messaging and video. More details to come!

Exhibition / Satellite Symposia:  There will be a virtual exhibition and industry-supported satellite symposia.

Refunds:  MASCC Executive and Board of Directors have agreed that delegates who have carried over their registration from 2020 to 2021 but decide not to attend will receive a refund. MASCC currently does not have access to these funds and is seeking legal advice. We appreciate your patience in this matter. (MASCC cannot reimburse for expenses incurred independently of the previous professional conference organizer.)

Please remember to cancel any travel or hotel arrangements you have made independently.

Stay tuned to MASCC’s newsletter, social media posts, and emails for details of our virtual meeting.

For any further questions about the meeting, please email us at [email protected]

We look forward to you joining us in 2021 as we celebrate our collective resilience and forge new connections without boundaries.
